Great Season Opener
After running the first turbo streetbike 6 second (6.98) pass at the Manufacturers Cup Finals in November many people thought I should leave the bike alone. That has always been hard for me to do and this was no exception. I knew that even with a 6.98 our bike only went 199 mph in good air. This lack of mph (horsepower) at high boost is what I addressed over the winter with help from George and Derek at Star Racing, and the long standing help from JE Pistons, Millennium Technologies, and Falicon Crankshaft. Not only was the Little Red Honda reliable but we picked up 2.5 mph with much worse air quality. The top end power came at a price of bottom end torque and took all of Friday and Saturday to get a handle on getting the bike to leave the line. By Sunday it was leaving the line consistent but not as quick as last season. We marched through the competition running 7.08 then 7.04 to get us in the final. I made a keystroke error on the tuning for the final and it caused Frankie to wheelie and slowed us to a 7.17@201mph. Jeremy Teasley on Ken Edwards bike won the race with a 7.05. Congratulations to them, they are a great team and a lot of fun to race against. I am disappointed in myself for making a mistake in the final but very encouraged that with the extra horsepower we will be that much harder to beat the rest of this year.
Bob from Rock Solid Mfr. was on hand helping tune many ProStreet bikes clutches and showing us his latest clutch designs. I get excited over innovation and new ideas and Bob like me can’t sleep nights when he comes up with something new. Joe Rocket leathers are back with Stotz Racing. Frankie was sporting the new Carbon Fiber Joe Rocket helmet and will have the new leathers for the new bike at the next race. Also, our pit area was looking fantastic with our new awning and support from Brad and Eric at Portable Shade. Klaus from EPM Performance got us our new HyperPro shock in time for the new bike but the wiring harness will take a little time to complete and then test before the next race. It is a great start to another year of great racing with friends, family, and fans.
