Honda’s Hot at Season Opener
The Manufacturers Cup Drag Racing series opened April 5-7 with the Exoticycle Spring Cup Nationals in Florida at Bradenton Motorsports Park. Stotz Racing’s new Red, White, and Blue cbr1000rr with Ryan Hable riding debuted in fine form along with the always stellar Red 6 Second CBR which Frankie Stotz rode to the #1 qualifying position of 7.04 at 202 mph. Rain made testing impossible on Thursday but our Portable Shade awning kept us dry and comfortable. Friday the track dried out and 1/8 mile tests of 4.80 @160 mph showed the Red, White, and Blue CBR was following in the Red CBR’s footsteps. We turned up the power on both bikes. Frankie continued to get quicker but Ryan’s new bike started spinning the tire. In testing Saturday night we found the new bikes suspension was bottoming, causing tire slip. After adjusting the EPM Performance HyperPro rear shock the bike started flying again. Ryan beat last years Champion Bud Yoder in the first round and tied his opponents ET in the second round but lost due to a slower reaction time. Still a good first outing for both new bike and new rider Ryan Hable.
Meanwhile on the other side of the elimination ladder Frankie was on a roll, tying his qualifying mark of 7.04 again on the way to the Orient Express Pro Street final round. The final was the storybook final of D.M.E.’s big bore 210+ mph Busa with Joey Gladstone riding against the 998 cc Little Red Honda CBR with Frankie riding to low 7.04 ETs. Thank goodness for our Mickey Thompson tires and Rock Solid clutches because Frankie went a stellar 1.19 to the 60 foot and was flying away while Joey was spinning off the line in the other lane. Before we could start celebrating we noticed Frankie had been too quick with his reactions and red lighted handing the win back to the D.M.E. boys. Both Stotz Racing and D.M.E. had wanted a battle to the end instead of their tire spinning and our red light but that will have to wait for the next race. Stay tuned it looks to be a very exciting season.
Congratulations to Joey Gladstone and the D.M.E. camp and also to Johnny Dobrin for his win in Real Street at his company’s Exoticycle Nationals. Thanks go out the Man Cup and Bradenton Motorsports Park for putting on one heck of a race.
